Factors affecting the communication range of walkie talkies.

Range of walkie talkies in different environments
The communication range of walkie talkies varies greatly in different usage environments. Houses, walls, forests, terrain, metal objects, and other obstacles can greatly affect the communication range of walkie talkies. When using, please try to move to an open high ground so that the walkie talkie can reach a larger range. This is also the main reason why some customers use it within a range of less than 1/4 mile, while others can use it within 1 mile or more. Usually, when used in practical environments, FRS walkie talkies have a range of about 1/2-2 miles. If it is inside a building, due to the obstruction of walls, the communication range will be smaller. Only in an open and unobstructed usage environment, which is ideal, can FRS walkie talkies reach a range of over 3 miles, even 6 miles, and beyond.

The influence of the transmission power of walkie talkies on the range
The communication range of a walkie talkie is not only affected by the environment, but also determined by the transmission power of the walkie talkie. The higher the transmission power, the larger the transmission range. According to FCC requirements, the transmission power of all FRS intercoms (license free) is limited to a maximum of 2 watts. No matter what brand of FRS walkie talkie it is, it cannot have higher transmission power, so the range of FRS walkie talkies will be limited. It is impossible to achieve those propaganda ranges that can reach tens of miles.

If our FRS walkie talkie cannot meet your range requirements, we do not recommend purchasing other brands of FRS walkie talkies as the range is almost the same. We suggest that you purchase GMRS walkie talkies (which require a GMRS license).

The transmission power of GMRS walkie talkies is greater than 2 watts, and the range is much larger than that of FRS walkie talkies.

Tip: The GMRS license is issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States to authorize the use of GMRS radio services. The license is valid for ten years and does not require an exam, only a fee of $70 needs to be paid. Online application is sufficient. A license covers both the holder and your immediate family members. ‌

The impact of battery power on range
As the battery level decreases, the battery voltage will also gradually decrease. Voltage will affect the transmission power of the walkie talkie, reducing the transmission power and the range of the walkie talkie. Therefore, ensuring sufficient battery life can also increase the range of the walkie talkie to a certain extent.

The impact of electromagnetic interference:
The electromagnetic environment in cities is complex, and the popularity of electronic products and appliances may lead to electromagnetic interference, affecting the communication quality of walkie talkies.

The impact of weather:
Severe weather such as thunderstorms may also interfere with the normal communication of walkie talkies, affecting the stability of signals.

About waterproofing
The headphone jack and charging port do not have waterproof performance. Therefore, when encountering rain or other water environments, please check if the rubber plugs at the headphone jack and charging port are installed properly. Please do not open the walkie talkie at will, as it may cause the waterproof performance of the walkie talkie to fail. As the usage time increases, drops, impacts, etc. may weaken or render the waterproof performance of the walkie talkie ineffective.

How to communicate with other brands of walkie talkies
If it is a standard 22 channel FRS walkie talkie, communication only requires the same channel number and code number. If it is a non-standard FRS walkie talkie, please refer to the frequency comparison table in the user manual for confirmation. Two walkie talkies of different brands can communicate if the frequency corresponding to the channel number in the table matches the CTCSS/DCS code corresponding to the privacy code number.
